6 Worrying Trends That Will RUIN Gaming In 2019

Hey guys, welcome to all-time gaming I’m Chris. I’m Jamie and guys we did it. Yeah. We survived 2018 Ah, thank god another year down another year closer to death. Oh god, what a **** show. It was a Kris ain’t listen I’m just happy to see the end of it and while it may be true at least we’ve got some good games we did get Good games. Yeah, it was a great year for games It was but now it’s time to look to the future and all the possible **** storms that await us in 2019 So come with us now as we take a look at six worrying trends that might run rampant in 2019 trigger warning It ain’t good as we saw in 2018 free-to-play games are on the rise. Fortnight dauntless and warframe are all doing crazy number and All day in crazy number. I’ve been listening to Togo for too long For tonight dauntless and warframe are all doing crazy numbers and that’s largely thanks to the juicy fact that they’re free Yeah, which means everyone can afford them I also kind of feel they’re like if you ever pay to play a game that fails just make a free to play pretty much I mean because who could say no to a free game right and not this guy Another reason is that some of these games have done away with the whole loop box thing in exchange for something That sounds a lot better on paper the battle pass Oh These are essentially subscriptions for games that allow you to access content that free to play peasants aren’t allowed to get their grubby little mitts on It’s basically gaming a party as an African you would know. I do know all too well And while these battle passes only offer Cosmetic items for most games we can’t help but worry that this could all change in the future So far battle passes are pretty non-intrusive if you ignore the giant adverts for them all over every game ever Yeah, especially in the main menu a little mind you though. It’s their Chris A+ but some money Yeah I didn’t know but how long will it be until we see whole parts of games locked off to players who don’t want to drop? 15 dollars every couple of weeks in the games they play suddenly They’re restricted by the fact, they don’t have the money to burn and that doesn’t sit right with me Chris No, no, not at all while these battle passes have done us all a favor and helped kill off loot boxes It also creates a scary state where people are rewarded for pumping a small stream of money into a game. Look at dauntless For example where you get stronger weapons Chris you see this way I want to draw the line right because I was okay with it kind of up until now but as soon as this like changes The way you play the game, that’s not cool Like just keep a cosmetic ice 100% and it also creates a divide between free players and paying players where the rich get stronger and the poor get well adverts all the time I mean That’s horrible. Now Jamie summing that’s been the bane of every gamer since the dawn of video games is the pre-order I Mean they’ve been around for a long while right if this year it’s gonna get a little bit weirder Publishers wants us to drop our hard earned money on a game long before we know absolutely Anything about it and they do this by offering us some sweet sweet preorder bonus Incentives and this frankly sucks Especially for me because I get sucked in by them every time they just seem to be offering more and more stuff if you preorder I don’t want a pre-order. I want to read the review anyway in 2018 alone We got fallout 76 offering a beta go out of war offering powerful weapons in the early game to make the game easier and a Naruto a game That offered you well fucking soccer. I mean I kind of want some Naruto socks. Can I get them? I’m wearing their route Oh sucks right now That’s what you’ve been running so fast today arms behind my back the one that’s really got me though Jamie is Devil May Cry 5s. Pre-order comes with a fucking Mega Man arm the blaster hell, yes Unless you preorder what I’m gonna do fucking preorder it either way Yeah, all these small offerings do is try to convince us that a game is worth buying by distracting us with things kind of completely irrelevant to the game most of the time they’re buying into that game of OCD that we all have where if we don’t get every Little thing available for a game. We love would okay in the full experience. Yeah I mean just look what happened with Red Dead Redemption I spent 75 pounds on that game and you didn’t even get everything I didn’t it’s madness but it could be even worse sometimes missions or even whole characters are kept from players and offered as Pre-order bonuses this often banks on fans nostalgia for the series and makes them pay way more To get something that I mean to be honest, they should have access to anyway soon We’re gonna get to the point where you need to preorder Street Fighter I don’t know super hyper mega edition EXO mega, if you want to just play as fucking real. Oh wait, hold on They’ve already done that with char card in Mortal Kombat 11 in Shao Kahn He’s main roster material as people are getting better at holding off on pre-ordering games Publishers are having to think of worse and worse ways to prematurely take the money out of our wallets. Where’s the money Lebowski? Let’s just hope in 2019 We don’t get to the point where the new cod game Comes out with guns that don’t have triggers and the only way to shoot them is to pre-order I mean, it sounds ridiculous, but it is Activision at the end of the day back at Blizzcon This year little game was announced that got the internet a little bit upset. Chris edged the lil hmm a game that we can all play because The phone game no one asked for is diablo immortal this one stings this was a problem for a lot of people partly because it showed Blizzard clearly don’t understand what the Diablo community wants but also because It shows a shift in the gaming market a shift towards China, China China Lots of companies now are starting to focus on the Chinese gaming markets, which makes sense I mean there are about 250 million gamers in China So it’s easy to see why people want to get some of that yuan cash money You aren’t cash money my new favorite rapper holla Holla make you one dollar doesn’t really like we got any insensitive but this is causing a lot of devs to go down a similar route okra Seymour and making mobile games are spending less and less time on their console counterparts babji for example at 50% of its player base in China in 2017. Ouch, although it did actually just get banned in that country. So there’s that double Yeah, hey, we covered it in our podcast. Now’s a good time to tell you about our podcast We have a podcast to go. Listen, it’s us without the script info in the description. Also, Chris we almost had the whole controversy around Rainbow six siege when they tried to introduce a whole heap of Changes to the game to make it more friendly to the Chinese censors Oh, yeah They’re like making it less bloody and removing signs and stuff Sexual imagery all the kind of weird things that Chinese people don’t like what ghosts and skeletons. Yeah I don’t like him either So obviously those are big enough fan backlash that Ubisoft walked it back, but it was a reminder of how close we are Dan and he’s the scary thing. Yeah, they try to implement that as a change So the community and the fan base could fight back what happens when a game decides to make that change in development? Yeah Well, the public is unknowing of it doesn’t paint a pretty picture Jamie doesn’t does this mean we’ll be seeing more games being raced for mobile with a free-to-play model crammed with micro transactions sadly It’s quite likely just remember guys. You can always speak with your wallet and not play these games Let’s just the companies here in the west hear our voices at least hear them over the voices of those 300 million Chinese players You know what Jamie? What’s that crisps? Nostalgia? Nostalgia is a hell of a drug Detroit heroin as we’ve seen in recent years companies have been preying on a Nostalgic love for video games as much as they can and it looks like it’s only gonna get worse, baby companies like Nintendo and Sony have been Jumping at the chance to repackage their old games and consoles and sell them back to us at a hefty profit margin recently we got the snez classic and the playstation classic too many consoles that completely Manipulated people who were desperate to relive their childhood memories in the case of the Nintendo one It was pretty decent in the case of the PlayStation 1 not so much. Yeah, but you know what just like your ex? They ain’t coming back guys. Just move on We also got the crash and Spyro remakes Which I mean while funds play a pretty obviously taking advantage of people’s nostalgic love for those games and boy did they sell like hotcakes Just look at any media coverage. It’s always compared to how we remember it This has us worried that 2019 will be the Euro of hey, did you guys remember this? Remember remember this one. You used to like this one. Give us money if you remember this hell yeah, we’re every other game coming out is either a remake or a reimagining I mean we’ve got medieval prison and evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7 all to come so we are in no short supply of them or although in the Case of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7. I’m looking forward to them look at a line Also, Chris 2019 will be the year of release for Shenmue 3 again, they brainwash people into crowdfunding madness They made people think Shenmue was good. Do you know of any places where sailors hang out? This sucks? Because it means less time goes into making new and original games and more into the same games that we’ve already played I like gaming because it offers me new and exciting experiences I don’t wanna keep reliving the same moments over and over again because that’s just not fun Unless it’s masturbation something that’s been buzzing around the gaming landscape for a while now is the idea of streaming game streaming Streaming game has paid you for this entry with the choisi was Google via Jonesy back in the day companies like unlive used to offer the ability to stream all your games through the magical power of the internet slew imagine exactly and while online may not have worked out these days more and more companies are willing to try out this whole streaming thing and Misc a little worried cautious. That’s a good word room Yeah services like Xbox X cloud and Google’s project stream all aim to allow players to stream their games instantly to their home devices So far so good Well with a small subscription fee, of course, okay, of course and while that I did does sound okay Chris some ideas are too good to be true because as I said Not only do you have to get a subscription for some of these services, but you also have to get the games through them Too they should just have like all in one service really sure like game pass Yeah Like imagine if game files came with streaming so you didn’t actually buy the console again might be too good to be true And that’s not the only issue Chris Okay Because all this means that if the service goes bankrupt and shuts down you can say goodbye to all those games that you’ve borne it While some services like Shadow offer the ability to link your Steam library to the service and just use those games not all of them offer this feature This is more apparent with switch games in Japan where Nintendo is trying out streaming certain games to the system people who buy Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for the switch will have its drinked and the cartridge is it or more that are key to the game? But I do kind of wanna play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on my switch. Just move to Japan easy is easy This means that if the service is a Boston Nintendo decide not to continue Doing it all those people who bought or to see straight up won’t be able to play it anymore Yeah, I mean there’s a reason why it’s only in Japan right because they’re testing the waters exactly and Chris None of this is even mentioning that people with unstable internet connections will be constantly struggling to play their games Yeah, it’s crazy. Isn’t it? Like boys death statistics having like half of the u.s Or more than half of the US doesn’t have adequate internet speeds in order to run these services exactly and Australia, they’ve still got dial-up Overall, the idea of online streaming is great But with no way ready to start relying on it as a dedicated way to play games I guess we like the idea in concept right? It’s gonna be like the first generation of anything. It’s gonna be shit Okay, guys topping off. Our list of woe is probably the most worrying trend that’s already beginning to take shape This is your trigger warning more and more digital stores are starting to appear and while that may sound like a good thing More competition is good after all this may end up hurting the industry more than anything else This one Chris genuinely scares me a lot of the other things we talked about I feel like I might get lucky and be able to avoid them. I feel like this one will destroy my life Gamze aka the company that cursed us with fortnight’s recently launched their own online store And at the video game awards it was confirmed They were getting their own exclusive games with the first being Supergiant games as hades with the promise of more to come look while this might sound great on paper It may not all be so fine and dandy Right because unsurprisingly exclusivity does not encourage competition It encourages exclusion need I remind you what happened to rise of the Tomb Raider Where was an Xbox exclusive and a handful of people got to play and about a year later when it came out on? PlayStation nobody played it exactly devs will start spreading out across different platforms to the point where people are gonna have 15 different fucking Launches on their computer people are lazy and if we have to boot up a new launcher every time we want to play a game I mean We probably just won’t play it think of how many logins you need to keep track of even if you use the same password Which you should never do if that gets hacked or if you forget it, then you’re screwed You have to change your password every time you sign into PSN I don’t like it because I can never remember and that’s not even factoring in what might happen if Subscriptions are introduced because guess what as soon as there have you by the short and curlies that can do whatever the fuck they want To do if these stores go the way of PS Plus and Xbox games parts will be seeing seas of people pissed off that again That they paid for a week ago and steam is now free on Epic or vice versa I can already put myself in that position Chris. Yeah. Oh this service has a decent library Until I’ve signed up for seven of them It’ll cause a halt of all game purchases because people don’t know what’s going to be offered to them for free I can’t blame them Really? I’d be annoyed if I spend $60 on a game only to see it for free the next day It happens with PS Plus all the time, doesn’t it? It happens with games boss all the time – apparently thoughts of horizon 4 sold millions of copies How I’m gonna be honest if you bought 4 horizon full you’re an idiot You even get the first month of games pass for a dollar Just do that. Unless you don’t you’re a bad Internet like we were talking about before Sorry Australia look all I’m saying is that devs need to play it carefully if they want to keep? Everyone happy and I just hope we don’t see a decline in PC game purchases because of this very thing. Whoa Oh my god, this the closest I’ve ever seen my face There’s loads of little holes in it It’s you the viewer, there you are

  1. that would make preorder……nahhh i wouldnt buy the game at all…its like if you want to have sex , you need to get married first…lol

  2. reasons why mobile games suck:
    1. They are hard to control.
    2. My phone can't run them due to the fact that it is too old.
    3. My phone can't even have it if it was available to it due to it having so little memory.
    4. If my phone had the memory too it would still be 2 fps.
    5. I have 2013 phone maybe I should get a new one.

  3. well, i wouldnt mind playing an old game from my childhood but with improved graphs, maybe with new stuff; i would , however, if they charge me for the price of an all brand new product

  4. I might be going down with the possibly sinking ship that is Overwatch, but I'd rather go down with that than give in to any battle royale game, and that has become a plague on the gaming community where you have to have a battle royale mode to be successful

  5. The only time I ever open the EPIC GAMES launcher anymore is when there is a free game. Though that could be said about any launcher that isn't Steam. I don't even play them, just add it to my account and exit the launcher. The only launcher I keep running consistently is Steam. I rarely ever redeem any game keys that aren't connected to Steam and I try to avoid games that require me using another launcher. Like Uplay, Blizzard, Origin, etc.

  6. … first PlayStation
    Then Xbox
    I LITERALLY can not play over Half my games due to “monthly subscription fee”

  7. Can everyone stop screaming about the collapse of the gaming industry? It's not going to happen. That's like saying movies are soon to be a thing of the past.

  8. If anyone reads this and this is your first ATG video, watch more ATG, ATG is amazing, been watching the triumphant trio since they started these guys need more support and more viewers. Love ya Chris, Jamie, and can’t wait for Jonsey’s return you guys make me laugh and keep me entertained whenever I’m bored never stop never stopping

  9. for preorders, order the game, buy it, DO NOT OPEN IT, wait a few days and check out reviews, if it sux, you can return the game for a full refund.

  10. Don't worry, I've been in the game along time and I know how to dodge these disastrous gaming plans. Furthermore, If, and " IF " indeed, gaming industry fuc* it all up and there was nothing honest and decent to buy, I'll be happy to move on the whole gaming thing, because I got into gaming because of the passion and love of the developers for their games, and if they forgot that love, then I'll forget about it too and stop even thinking about the part of life that is " GAMES ".

    Every game series that fuc*ed us over, ( Note: I never fall for those lying bastards, that's the people's reactions), I fully ignored and left behind :
    1- COD, ( from advanced warfare and up).
    2- Far Cry, ( from FC5 and up).
    3- Battlefield, ( still hoping for a redemption, after BFV).
    4-MGS, ( I love it, but after Konami took over the series, Hell No, that series is over with MGSV).
    5-Assassin's creed, (from Origin and up).
    6- Destiny, (LoL, never fell for it anyway).
    7- Any Online ONLY games, ( Overwatch, titanfall, For Honor, …etc), but Free online games are OK by me, though I don't play them, ( fortnite, Warframe, League of legends, …etc).

    Believe me, there are more, but that what came to my mind just now…

    OMG, I just realized that they really fuc*ed it up, lots of big title companies have destroyed their own games.

    I might an old-fashioned gamer, but I'm sticking to my single player games and the games from the developers who are clearly showing passion and love for their games. Not the " Fuc* you, give me Money " Developers 😐 .

  11. Kinda disagree with the remake one. I know you don’t want to play games you’ve already played but some people have never seen or heard of them or the console is too old to buy so remastering them makes them easier to play. I would’ve never experienced LA Noire without the remastered version.

  12. I haven't pre-ordered any games since I fell into that trap with Mass Effect 3 and Halo 4 back in 2012. All those pre-orders gave me was a few useless pieces of plastic junk and access to a game mode that in all honesty wasn't all that engaging, the only decent thing I got out of it all was a bonus gun in ME3, but even then the M-55 Argus was pretty much useless, heck the default M-8 Avenger was more effective.

  13. My god you are assuming every single nitpicky little thing that possibly could ever happen with something that happened even once. And really you are spending less money on a snes classic than an actual snes and it’s games. It is not manipulative

  14. I like that some game developers are remaking old gen games of the old gen consoles because those games you can no longer buy. Remakes of old gen games that I loved playing as a kid is what I'm looking forward to.

  15. Fools Australia has great wi fi what you think we just go out and resale crocks for fun gaming is a huge thing in Australia

  16. I’m pissed because I’ve literally gotten like 3 game from PS Plus because I already own the ones they offer. I’ve always said that if you own the game you should get a little discount code or something.

  17. As a Chinese gamer, I must make this clear:
    We didn't ask for the censorship. Everyone Chinese gamer HATES those censorship just like you guys do.

  18. Am i the only one who noticed that there are 2 number 5? https://youtu.be/Yxcdnm5BjeU?t=525 and https://youtu.be/Yxcdnm5BjeU?t=645

  19. Hey, please don't say "Chinese people don't like." It's the stupid mother fucking Chinese government and its bureaucrats that don't like these things. I love skulls!

  20. The only shooter my mates play is fort nite and are not used to normal shooters there think it’s weird to be in first person and have 2 weapons

  21. Speak with your wallet 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's fucking hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣 not in America, land of the extra chromosome living pre ordering tards

  22. What about politically correct propaganda? More and more games putting a lot of gays into the game for no reason;

    because of feminists, ladies in games getting uglier or changed totally (Dragon Age 3, Mass Effect, Tomb Raider);

    because of sexism they adding women chars where they shouldn't be by logic (Battlefield V),

    because of racism they trying to sue the games with less or no black peoples on it (Kingdom Come).
    I am not racist or sexist or against any of them, but this illogical actions making me crazy, because peoples who fight with game developers for this issues even not playing games.

  23. making games for the chinese…in the rest of the world. if you're making games for the chinese, DO NOT LET THE REST OF US KNOW. or at the very least make a version the rest of us can accept. of course, anyone making a product the common man can accept these days is liable to get the developer burned at the NPC stake.

  24. Fuck commie China, not the amazing and awesome every day people of China, but the commie infested grind the world under it's corporate wheels China. Yeah those commie need death in a bad way.

  25. Me and my housemates been saying for 2 years if not more that peoples should stop accepting crap from those who makes the games and should finally stand up to them and say; "No! I will not buy that shit!" And actually do it!

  26. what do you mean "will ruin gaming" games have already been ruined. all of the main games these days are just shitty fucking cash grabs god even metro is getting bad reviews.

  27. with all these games going exclusive to certain platforms on PC, i'm just going pirate those games if I want them. I'm not downloading more launchers.

  28. Yeah but it's funny when people don't preorder the game or collectable and get pissed when the store they went through doesn't have anymore

  29. The worst part about this whole competition on the pc market is the fact that the only legitimately good launchers are got.com and Steam. The epic launcher and most others absolutely suck.

  30. The retro console products always puzzled me why they sell out so fast. #1, you can pick up a real classic system for fairly cheap if you want to. #2, if you really wanted to play the games, pretty much all the 16 bit and lower consoles/games are very well emulated for free if one was so inclined(32 bit and up is a little trickier).

    That said, Video game is at a point that people in their 30s thru 50s have plenty of disposable income to spend on reboots of characters they loved as a kid so I'm totally ok with reboots and such. There are enough new IPs being released that I'm not concerned.

  31. -Complains about dead franchises that devs forgotten;
    -Complains about remake games that basically revived their franchises;

  32. I would much rather pay for remakes and remasters that are done well than ANY game that floods itself with micro-transactions

  33. gaming industry : "overpricing their games with inclusion of a pricey season pass, p2w system and paid DLCs for new storyendingwhat-if-scenario"
    Gaming industry : "hmm i wonder why people pirating our games…"

  34. If a game is online multiplayer only I instantly have no desire to buy it.
    Frankly this trend is disgusting and degrading to gaming as an art form and we as Gamers should demand better.

  35. The AlltimeGaming team have just shot a new table top role-playing game! We think you should check it out!

  36. Fortnite doesn’t flood people who don’t buy the battpass with ads for buying it don’t make up shit and do your research!

  37. I disagree about the part on nostalgia. I think it is a shame that old games are not easily (and legally) playable. These remaster/remakes/mini consoles are an opportunity for younger gamers, who didn't have the opportunity to play these old games to play them

  38. Honestly, I don't mind companies catering to my nostalgia. I seriously want an up to date graphical remake of Sonic 1,2,3/Knuckles, and CD all packaged as a single game. I'd pay 60 bucks for something like that easy.

  39. I use to be a huge gamer, I'd spend 10 hours or more a day playing my library of 13 different systems and over 350 games. Also at one point one MW2 was poplar I was ranked 5th in the world across platforms. Half way through 2018 I stoped buying any new games altogether because the companies stoped caring and kept putting out crap. But there is hope and it comes in the form of small companies such as ninedots studio who just released a new game called Outward. The only way for the gaming industry to get better since they won't listen to the gamers, is for small companies to show them up and make something good like back in the day.

  40. About the battle pass part activision puts weapons in the bo4 contraband, however half of the supply stream weapons are shit

  41. You know in fortnite and in apex, some of your rewards from the battle pass are credits which you can use to buy the next seasons battle pass, so you could technicly buy once and have every other battle pass that comes out in the future without needing to spend more money. I much rather the battle pass system over lootboxes in games.

  42. "Nostalgia is a hell of a drug" "I mean, have you tried heroin?"
    I almost choked to death on my green tea XD

  43. I like the idea of remakes simply to introduce a new audience to a long-running series (or to use an excuse to replay games I would probably play again anyway except now I can get trophies for clout lol)

  44. Fortnite good it’s showing other games if they want players they have to lower down their price and so free to play games are awesome cause no ones left out

  45. 4:29 – I can hear the commercial ending now.
    Pre-order Call of Duty to get early access to weapons with triggers. And the bonus DLC: grenades that explode.

  46. If you can afford to pay monthly to stream games you can afford to save up and buy them out right. Stop being stupid.

  47. I preorder any game that I can't wait to play. It takes me back to the days when I bought games but had to wait three years to get a system.

  48. What about MnK-ing? I almost bought one and I’m just a single player offline type gamer but realizing the huge and unintended advantage it would give me to aim with a 10,000 dpi mouse over the forever challenging and partially awkward ps4 right joystick… I feel like it would just make games way way way way way way easier and less fun and challenging if I just headshot all console mobs pouncing toward me in these giant open world 70% speed type games we have now, especially if you consider skills that slow motion or boost damage or crit and headshot damage…. like whomping end game bosses back after they have been whomping you for weeks probably feels fking great but then you realize he will never beat you again and all challenge is gone… why keep playing ?
